Lines and wrinkles are a natural fact of ageing. So they can never truly be prevented or reversed. But anti-wrinkle injections soften the appearance of facial wrinkles caused by expression, such as lines to the forehead and around the eyes. They aren’t always the right solution for lines caused by gravity, such as to the mouth and lower face. Your suitability for anti-wrinkle injections will be discussed at your consultation.
Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine. This means you will need to have a consultation with a registered prescriber before the procedure can go ahead. Patient safety will be compromised if unlicensed products are used to bypass the prescription required. At Face Things First, we only use safe, regulated products from reputable suppliers and work with a registered medical prescriber.
Unlike dermal fillers. anti-wrinkle injections cannot be dissolved or reversed. However, the results are only temporary. The muscle relaxant will wear off naturally within a few months. If you have experienced complications of anti-wrinkle injections that have been improperly administered, such as asymmetry, facial drooping, or a frozen face, you will unfortunately have to wait until the toxin wears off.
As the saying goes, prevention is better than the cure. Some clients will be more suitable for preventative wrinkle relaxing injections, administered when fine lines have started to linger but deep creases have not yet formed. We typically recommend preventative toxin for clients who are more likely to develop deeper wrinkles, such as those with thinner, finer skin, very expressive faces, or close family members with deeper set wrinkles.
Despite their name, anti-wrinkle injections aren’t solely used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin can also be prescribed for medical reasons to improve issues like excessive sweating, teeth grinding, or migraines. It can also be used to slim jawlines and correct a gummy smile. There is no research or clinical trial into the safety of anti-wrinkle injections during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Due to this, it is advised to avoid them until after the baby is born or you have stopped breastfeeding.
